Ketosis

Ketosis is a Metabolic disorder of energy deficiency in cattle. There will be an imbalance between the nutritive intake and nutrition requirement for the body. The condition usually occurs in the post calving period and the risk is more in high producing dairy cattle.

Most high-producing cowsgo through a subclinical type of ketosis in earlylactation when they are unable to consume enoughenergy to meet the energy output in milk and can be classified as Primary Ketosis. Thetemperature is not normally elevated. An elevated temperature accompanyingprimary ketosis suggests additional complications.

Secondary Ketosis is the condition that results from other problems that haveoccurred around the calving period such as Retained placenta,Displaced abomasum, Mastitis, Hardware Disease. In short any disease whichreduces appetite, may result in secondary ketosis.
